Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
