Brian Eno Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The single blends a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
