Followers Urge Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who breached a barrier and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile features clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
