Iran Reports Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
