Los Angeles Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
In the wake of heavy downpours that led to inundation across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unusually warm weather for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
During the day Friday, the mercury reached 91°F (33°C) in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This breaks the old record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on forecast charts for the region.
Safety Warnings
Authorities cautioned that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their guidance featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in mercury comes on the heels of a massive storm system that battered the area earlier in the week. That storm unleashed thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to the mountains, leading to evacuation orders for millions residents.

Weekend Outlook
Forecasters predict cooler conditions is expected. Readings were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that hit ninety degrees featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to experience the high 80s.
In the coming days, central Los Angeles can expect temperatures in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the week ahead.
