The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
