Trump Calls Families of Shot National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were âdeeply grievingâ.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief explained heâs discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
âI stated: âWhen youâre able, because thatâs a difficult moment, come to the White House. Weâre going to recognize her,â Trump told journalists. âAnd in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.â
Public Support
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the presidentâs national effort to support public safety in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
âShe was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,â Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. âShe was caring, considerate and always willing to support those in need.â
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the government to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is âin a critical fightâ, the stateâs governor Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general told a news show that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
âShe had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,â the governor addressed the crowd at the memorial. âThough her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy thatâs going to last forever.â
