President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support public safety in the capital.

“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The incident led the government to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.

The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on television.
