Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Attack as Police Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's tragic incident at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their killer carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared sympathies publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The gunman discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Police that entered the hotel recovered two firearms and two ammunition clips when the suspect was taken into custody, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to records. The following Monday was the 349th day of the year.
